When The Little Things Become 'A Big Deal'!
Today has been another hectic day with the rushed morning, waking up the kid for the umpteenth time only to hear 'two more minutes!' from him, hurriedly preparing breakfast and sending off the kid to the school.
As usual, I dropped off his lunch to his school at 11. The morning was dark and gloomy with an overcast sky and the promise of rains. As I reached home after delivering the lunch, I took the first relaxed breath of the day.
I live for this pocket window - this moment, when all the chores of the morning are done and I finally get time to do what I love to do, which mostly is reading. Since I am writing about happiness now-a-days, it struck me that this moment could be considered as a happy moment in my day.
It also brought in a realization, that there are many such tiny and happy moments in my days.
That hour of silence and solitude early in the morning when I take my tea and play some devotional songs on the TV.
When the first bird-song breaks out from the tree beside our apartment, gladdening the heart and filling the morning with positivity.
The comfort of a hot-water bath on a cold morning.
My first cup of coffee which always refreshes me.
That moment when I return home after delivering the kid's lunch and the realization that I have time for myself.
The prospect of a cozy nap in the afternoon (which is also the motivating factor to wake up early in the morning).
Catching up with a book (and sometimes its a re-reading of a much loved classic. Currently I am reading LOTR - Fellowship Of The Ring. Please do not ask me how many times I have read it. I feel it will never be enough.)
Many a times I watch some reels of people having adventure or going to exotic places or doing something really wild and thrilling, and I feel that maybe this is life - a wild, uncertain and unpredictable adventure. And perhaps in my youthful days I would have sworn by this.
But at this stage, where all I crave is for peaceful solitude and a blissful existence, I am all in for the little moments of happiness that the days bring. As a homemaker, there isn't much happening in life (even though there is always much to do!), but whatever little happens, I am learning to find joy and peace in the same.
And this brings yet another realization - happiness can indeed be found in the little things, if only we perceive them with gratitude and contentment. Life need not be one wild adventure to make you happy. Most of the times, it is the little treasures of the day that arrive in your heart unannounced, making you happy and later on, when you look back at these things, you will realize that somehow, it was the little things that turned out to be a big deal.

Absolutely. I too found happiness in little things, until life has taken over my life! Good post. And I smiled thinking of my own younger days with my litle and no-so-little ones
ReplyDeleteYes absolutely right it was the little things
