When The Journey Matters More Than The Destination!
I had thought that by blogging on happiness and its various aspects, I would reach nearer to my destination, that my quest for happiness will finally start making sense.
But with every blog, a new set of questions and challenges arises, and I find my journey lengthening by strides and notches. Sometimes it feels too tough, that maybe I have embarked on something far beyond my league. After all, they do say that happiness is elusive and it is vain to search for something that is supposed to already exist within you. That it is futile to search outwards for the thing that is supposed to exist inward.
But then, I remember a quote that I have often come across. It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters in the end. - Ursula Guin. May be the journey will be endlessly long, but I can live and learn to enjoy every moment of it. My attempts for happiness, although many, do provide many blissful moments to my days. Journaling in the solitude of the morning and evening, basking in the silence of the dawn and rejoicing at the outbreak of the first bird song, learning to be myself, doing more of the things that I love to do, growing a spine, developing a voice, making real-life relationships and nurturing them, savoring the little pleasures of daily life - every step has brought in comfort and joy.
My first blog started with an observation that I am surrounded by too many self-help books which indicate that there is something missing in life. But where would I be without them!? The books that I read on mental wellbeing and mindfulness bring me immense solace, and even though I may not implement every lesson that I learn from them, I get brief glimpses of self-realization and bliss from the same, and they give me hope, that someday I will find myself there, at that exalted position where I will be able to genuinely proclaim that I am happy. Right here, right now. And that I do not need anything.
Until then, my quest will continue with the hope that someday I and happiness will meet for sure and will be in a permanent relationship, with no break-ups or time-offs. Just the realization that the thing I have been searching for has always been within me, and my journey was more about removing everything that was clouding my vision. Until then, the quest will continue and every step will bring me nearer to the elusive temptation named Happiness.

You have such a cohesive defination for happiness. Well, for me, only one line defines happiness aptly, "सफ़र खूबसूरत है मंज़िल से भी!"
ReplyDeleteHappiness seems elusive most of the times dear. It's like the butterfly appearing to be in reach but flying away at the last minute.... Nicely written, friend.... Wishing u all happiness forever
